Nothing better than the sound of a huge mortar heading into the sky and the anticipation of seeing the resulting pattern.
I live in PA though and we are backwards and do not allow fireworks to be purchased. Thank goodness MD does!Comment

yeah, a few years ago a buddy and I designed and built a 24 channel electric ignitor control, complete with LED continuity indicators to show us that we were clipped in on the ignition wiring. We used normal high-quality consumer fireworks, and just wrapped the fuses with nichrome wire so that we could shoot electrically. All of this was coneected so that we had several plywood firing stations with 8 curcuit connections per board. The fireworks were loaded up, 8 shots per board, and when a board was spent, we quickly unplugged and re-plugged to the next board. There were three 60' harnesses, (8 per harness) that went out to the boards. One guy shooting, (times to music of course) and the other guy manned a beer, a fire extinguisher, and the boards.

The buddy later went on to complete coursework and training to get his commercial fireworks operator license and he ended up working several summers with a manufacturer who also did shows...It's not an optical illusion.

NICE!!!
We are far lower tech. We put 8 - 10 tubes in a circle and have 5 guys with lighters. Of course no one leaves the circle until theirs are lit.
