Good news for all of us online gamers.
This morning on the radio they were interviewing a guy that has started a pro gaming league. Starting salary is $30,000 up to $100,000.Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity. I am still mystified by the use of anything other than an oscilloscope for peak output analysis; so one can see clipped waveform at max power out.
Gain controls are there to aid you with dialing in the peak output of the amp to coincide with the peak output of the driving devices (head unit) in front. Put it this way; they allow you to cause the amp to exactly track the full effecive range of volume control that the head unit, with boht reaching their peak output more or less at the same time.
There is no precise mathematical means of determining an exact setting, not without seeing the output waveform; there are too many variables... Use a quiet song or signal, you will set the gains too high. Use a highly compressed signal and you will probably end up setting gains too low.
Then there is the acoustic balance from the subwoofer to the full range part of the stereo system... If you set it all mathematically, with very inefficient in-boat speakers, and you will have way too much bass...
In my mind it is over-thinking things, but let me know where the match and the numbers came from, and I will try to assist.
I have a meeting in 5 minutes though; so hang tight while I am away...It's not an optical illusion.
It just looks like one.....
