external hard drives are great to have around the house.

When you are not using them, I would have them unplugged so when your computer is on, it doesn't attempt to utilized the drive. That way, the life of the drive will be longer. Now, seagate is not my top choice but it definitely beats maxtor hard drives.

I dont remember what brand but one of the reviews on newegg said that they were just refurbed Maxtors, Seagate gets good ratings, what is your top choice?

Western Digital is my preferred brand. I have gone thru 5 maxtor drives and only 1 Western Digital drive. Seagate is okay from what I heard but again, I like WD and will get them #1....
