It depends. Depends on a lot of things:
What impedance are the speakers?
Speakers series wired or parallel wired?
What impedance is the amp stable to?
Beyond those questions, we can assume you are talking car stereo amp and car stereo speakers.
A lot of car amps these days are two-ohm stable. That means the amp will be okay running two four-ohm loads wired in parallel.
Problem is, many car speakers today have a measured impedance below four-ohms. 3.2 - 3.6 ohms is common. Lots of two-ohm stable amps will not run a pair of these low-impedance speakers in parallel reliably.
MY bottom-line conservative approach is to design systems where there is one speaker per each amp channel. Adding more speakers without adding more amp just makes the amp work harder.
The comparison: Your question is sorta like asking about trying to make a 4-cylinder motor perform like a big-block V-8. Sure, you can add turbos, blowers, octane additive, other chrome go-fast parts to the in-line 4 to make it stronger and faster, but all of these while increasing power for the short term ultimately shorten the life of the motor. If you want 8-cylinder performance, plan on buying 8 cylinders.
Back to your qurestion; yes, you can put 4 speakers on two channels of an amp, but you need to wire it correctly. Check to see if you can find the answers to the above questions, and then get back to me and I will make recommendation on how to wire it up. Just know that we are "tweaking a 4-cylinder"; the best answer is to get more amplifier(s).It's not an optical illusion.

It was late that night. the madam was please with the evening's activity. The girls had participated in a good night, the cash had flowed, as had the libations, and the supplies of "other things".
The madam spoke up after assessing the evenings take and spoke out:Originally posted by CP3 View Postnap time whoresIt's not an optical illusion.
