Since I know nothing about those planes, how much does it cost to get into this sport?
I'm not the know everything about this sport, but I do have a friend that races, and my family goes down every year to watch, but you can get a nice sport class for well under 1million.....probably closer to 250k. As far as those WWII planes and Jets....I'll never have enough that's all I need to know....lol
A top of the line Lanceair can be had for about 750k. You could have bought Dago Red, the fastest Unlimited in history, for 1.7 million last year. That was the plane, a highly modified P-51, spare motor, hauler and a ton of spare parts. IMO, it's worth twice that and nobody bought it. A spare million could get you into some sort of racer though. I don't know that you would win anything, but you could definately have the time of your life. The thing about air racing though is that there is no money in it. If you break even, you done REAL good. They do it because they love it and that's it.
Here you go Tequila.Sport Class . I doesn't look like it's been updated from this years event, but at least it will give you an idea of what I feel would be the best direction to go to get into it. That's my plan at least. Ahh hem, looooong term plan that is.
As of yet, I don't have an answer for you. These kinds of things are always popping up though. Here is what turned up in the Air Biscuit pit Wed morning. Air biscuit is an FM-2 Wildcat that finishes dead last every year. It's still cool to see it round the sticks though.
