Time Warner adds fantasy football tracker

Local fantasy football players will now be able to track their players on TV while they're watching a game or another show.
Time Warner Cable on Wednesday rolled out a new service available to customers with its digital video recorders: Fantasy Football Tracker. The service allows viewers to track 20 NFL players of their choosing and receive real-time updates of their performances.
It was tested last year in Green Bay. This year, Time Warner subscribers in San Antonio and Columbia, S.C., also can get the free service.
"It exceeded our expectations," said Bill Harke, public affairs officer for Time Warner's northeastern Wisconsin operation. "We got more hits than we thought we would. People liked it. You can keep track of your players even if you're watching the 'Sopranos.' "
"I don't know why you would, but let's say you have Alex Smith on your fantasy team," Harke said. "You see he's 0 for 1. Then 0 for 2 with an interception. Then 1 for 3 for minus-3 yards and an interception."
The stats can be viewed in a scroll or full screen. Leader boards for various categories also are available throughout the week.
The tracker was developed by BIAP Systems, a Plano-based company whose co-founders list work on the International Space Station project and artificial intelligence research in their backgrounds.
Currently, many fantasy football players use computers and Internet sites to keep track of players on their or other teams.
"Fantasy football is growing by leaps and bounds," said Lidia Agraz, vice president of public and government affairs for Time Warner Cable–Austin division. "If interactive television applications are going to be successful, they need to make the customers' lives more convenient or the television experience better. This application does both."
Some Central Texas Time Warner employees have been testing the tracker for a few weeks. To access the football tracker, viewers will first hit the A button on their remote, select DVR extras from the access menu and then select Football Tracker.
Having a DVR, as opposed to only a digital cable box, is an additional $9.95 per month.
"I think it will be very popular," Roger Heaney, director of public affairs for Time Warner Cable here, said of the tracker. "This is Austin. Football is life."Cursed by a fortune cookie: "Your principles mean more to you than any money or success."

A lot of the satellite vendors are now offering DVR capabilities. These devices are highly programmable, just like your receiver. It might be worth asking about to see if they are doing a test market promo where you get to try it for free.
We already have a DVR on one of our cable boxes and I'm contemplating getting a second one. It's really nice to be able to record your favorite shows and sporting events and watch them when you want.Cursed by a fortune cookie: "Your principles mean more to you than any money or success."

Maybe I will call, that would be pretty cool.
We get the NFL Network, and man that is cool 24/7 NFL all year long. And this year they have 6 exclusive games that you can't see anywhere else ( or so I'm told) starting on Thanksgiving."I want to know God's thoughts, the rest are just details"
