    Nonboat related Winter projects

I do not know about you but the WI winter has been extremely cold. As I write this it is 0F with an overnight low of -12F and not supposed to get to the positive side of 0 until Thursday.

So that has left me with other non-boating projects to work on. Seeing the activity on tigeowners is down, lets see what everyone is burning time with.

    First I bought this -

Then changed the lights from this -

    To HID -
    after.jpg

The lights are much brighter, and that is an understatement. I also studded the track, installed a G&R s-module brace, skid plate and new carbides. The trails open on the 17th of December. That is the earliest they can open due to extended deer hunting season. Soooo looking forward to it.

Then I took my summer wheels of the truck and PlastiDip'ed my chrome winter wheels. I would highly recommend trying PlastiDip. It only cost me $35 dollars and 4 hours of my time to change the look of my wheels.

    Before -

    Midway -

    After -

    On the Truck -

These are some of the projects I have been working on this early winter. Now I have to install a outlet in a drawer inside the house to hide all the cords for the phones and tablets. Anyone ever do that?

What are you guys working on.

I just picked up a pile of goodies for my 2008 Avalanche LTZ:

The boat purchase has meant that I have to keep this truck running for the long term. So I'm making sure it is up to the job. I'm replacing the auto-ride shocks all around with factory replacements. The auto-ride / auto-leveling suspension is fantastic, although not heavy duty. I thought about replacing it with aftermarket, but then my truck is really only an LT! So I'll just accept they will wear out every few years (especially the rears) I'm also upgrading to EBC slotted/dimpled rotors and yellowstuff pads. Hopefully that will slow down this 14,000lb rig. Lastly I'm sticking in an aftermarket B&M transmission cooler. All this in addition to the supercharger I added in August.

With all those updates, I hope I can keep this thing towing for the next 5 to 7 years. It is my sincere hope that GM has sorted out a respectable 1/2 ton diesel in that time.

Oh ya, I had to drive down to Montana to pick all this stuff up. 7 hour drive in this:

Transmission in my sons's 95 YJ sheered the 1/2 syncro. So the trans is out so I can rebuild it. Got all the parts, just need to reassemble it.

Building a new Demo board/display for the Kicker gear. Need to have that done by first of Feb for the boat show.

@ Jonniemo That is cold. Only 3 more degrees and that is where Celsius meets Fahrenheit on the negative side of things! I have been on a snowmobile trip where we covered 60 miles in -20 F. The rule was every neon sign we saw we stopped. It was the only way to stay warm. Are you installing all that on your truck. That is a hell of a project!

@ Chpthril Thanks. It is going to be a fun season. Have fun putting that mess of parts back together to look like a tranny.

@ joe that picture does not count. Your boat is in the background. This is a non boat thread. Nice bike!

Not my boat, that's my parents boat, mine is still on the water . I picked up the bike when I was down in sunny Southern California visiting the family over Thanksgiving weekend.

Always wanted a sled, but I already have too many toys. That ski doo looks very fast! Keep us posted on how she runs next week.

I would love a shop like that. One day....

@Booms - When I was a kid, my dad's rule was -18C was too cold to go out riding. He was right. -38 was just insane. We don't usually see that in Alberta. Saskatchewan - well that is another matter. The parts are all for the Avalanche. I'm trying to turn an SUV into a medium duty truck (essentially). The power isn't a problem anymore with the supercharger, but brakes, transmission and trailering equipment all need some upgrading.

Booms, how does the plasti dip wear? My wife has a black Denali like yours that I have wanted to do the rims like yours. Looks good.

jmoore - So far so good. I have had it on my rims for 2 weeks. During those two weeks it has snowed and been -15 F outside. I have not been able to take it through a car wash yet. Too cold.

In Texas I do not think you will have the issues I have - snow, -20F and road salt. I have talked to guys on other forums that have had it on their cars/wheels for years with no issues. The best thing about it is if you do not like it. Peal it off.

No pics yet but my winter project is building a 40x60 shop with 12ft. roll up doors. Building it at the lake house where I will be moving this spring. The other project is finishing the remodel on my farm house so I can sell the place.
