    Philippines Typhoon Haiyan

I know that this group has many awesome members. I just want to make a plea for the victims of the largest typhoon in recorded history which devastated the Philippines this week. This storm was 500 miles wide and made landfall with 195 mph sustained winds. There will be millions of people who struggle every day just to get by who have lost everything. I have made donations through red cross and world vision.
My wife is from a city that was 90 miles south of the eye and fortunately our family is fine. We do know several people whose family homes were completely destroyed. We also know several people who have been unable to contact family.
    Please help if you can.

Thanks for the bringing it up. My son lived in Naga, Legaspi area for two years as a missionary for our church. We are glad he is home and didn't have to go through that devastation. There are still a few current missionaries unaccounted for, currently serving in the Tacloban area. Our prayers go out to all the people in that area. We have donated to our church, which I know has already been prepared for and sent relief efforts. http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/articl...-haiyan-update. My son wishes he was still there to help the people he loved so much. They had so little to begin with. Pretty much a day to day existence over there.

My son is going to the Philippines for typhoon relief.
He is leaving the day after Thanksgiving. He lived in the southern Bicol region of the island for two years and speaks fluent Tagalog. Our friends belong to a band called the Moonpools and Caterpillars that helped raise funds with t-shirts and an upcoming concert.

He has joined up with a group dedicated to helping revitalize the Philippines on an ongoing basis.
