You forgot one other part of the equation Mr. President and that is the Eco Diesel is a $4500 upgrade over the Hemi. So if you get your calculator back out it will probably even out mileage wise to the Hemi. BTW the 5.7 Hemi averages 16 MPG.
You just can't beat the torque of a diesel no matter what the CO$T.
You could be right. Let me call my vice president and see if we can enact an executive order and give you a tax refund to help out. It's only fair that the rest of us help share the cost burden.
Would a $4500 tax credit help you? After all, your helping us.
Actually, 20.5 MPG. Diesel is 15% more than petrol (per gallon)........so to be fair, comparing apples to apples, there is a .85 factor to validate this claim.
Hmm - no, it's still 24 mpg. Do you factor in the 5.7L upgrade for $1,100 when you calculate the mileage in your Tundra?
Don't be Fueled! The bottom line is efficiency and the cost of fuel is part of the equation. As for the $4500 capitalization cost, 50% of that (at least) would come back at resale. Which would still be true 150K miles and 7 years from now.
20.5 is the "relative" fuel efficiency. Is that better?
If Diesel was 15% less, (which is should be), then the relative fuel efficiency would be 27.5 MPG.......AND THIS is something to write home about cuz at 45000K, your cap costs have been recouped.
If jet fuel and diesel fuel were "off limits" to speculation, everyone would benefit except the greedy few (republicans).
Again, are you doing this for every single engine option for any given truck? Your V8 Tundra drinks more gas than the V6 version so when you factor in that the engine costs more AND uses more gas, what's your real mileage? The V6 is rated at 16/20 and the V8 is rated 13/18 and the V8 cost's $1,100 more and over the lifetime of the truck, that's a LOT of cash extra! Using the EPA combined number, the V6 gets 17 and the V8 gets 15. Over 100,000 miles and gas at $3.50 per gallon, you will spend $2,744 more in fuel. Add in the $1,100 upgrade and now you are at $3,844 more than the V6.
But you didn't include that in ANY of your comparisons here. Why is that?
