Tow Rig Talk: Nissan Titan to get a 5.0L Cummins Diesel!

This sounds pretty interesting! Nissan announced that they are going to put a Cummins in their Titan.

Truck owners told us there's a demand for the performance and torque of a diesel in a capable truck that doesn't require the jump up to a heavy-duty commercial pickup," Diaz said in a statement. "There is no question that the new Titan will turn heads, and with the available Cummins 5.0-liter V-8 turbo-diesel, we expect to win new fans and attract buyers looking for this unique configuration."

That would make for a nice 1/2 ton truck and probably get some decent fuel mileage since 1/2 ton trucks are required to use EPA mileage ratings.

Brilliant. About time these manufacturers started to come up with new ideas.

Unless you are pulling a horse trailer or a massive fifth wheel, most people don't want the trouble of a heavy duty truck. Ford's ecoboost and Dodge's 3.0L ecodiesel are good examples of clever thinking. I wish GM would figure this out. They pulled the plug on their 4.5L Duramax in 2008 when they went bankrupt.

Chrysler did the same thing.. they had the contract with the cummins V8 program but cancelled it in there BK.. its a sweet engine too.. Too bad its going into such a POS truck

That's old news though. Nissan started their Cummins test mule project back in 09 and FINALLY are ready to serve it up this coming year. Nissan has been a major innovator in the truck market since their full size debut in 04. My Titan is a Hemi killer with the 5.6, awesome platform. Nissan uses this motor in the GT-uploadfromtaptalk1378331087252.jpgR endurance races and also in the altima in the Australian
road racing circuits. Titans are like Tige boats, totally under rated.

My Titan still gets 12 mpg with 35" mud tires pulling my z1, those F-150 echo-boosts get 8-9mpg towing, and most other half tons towing mpg's are below 10

Disclaimer: I am satisfied with the size of my *****, and the following is not meant to be a measuring device of any kind..

Off the top of my head.....first full opening rear doors, first 5spd auto in 1/2 ton, first factory spray in bedliner and tie down track system, first lockable storage compartment on bed.....First dead sexy truck with power to match.....

Simple fact is every truck manufacturer has taken cues from Nissan. They were so far ahead of the game when they started, they were just waiting for everyone else to catch up. Nissan hasn't changed the truck much since 04' because they got it right the first time! Unlike the rubbish the Big 3 have been producing for the last decade. They feel compelled to redesign every two years because they have to keep pretending their being "innovative" when the only things that ever change are the headlights and grilles... LOL! I like the new dodges, they're sexy. But I could never see myself in an F-150 or Chevy/GMC these days.....FUGLY! And gutless!

This new Titan with the diesel is going to be a beast, there are going to be a lot of Big 3 truck owners hanging their heads.

Lol big there are not hanging ****.. Dodge will have the 1500 with a diesel you can buy.. So how is Nissan ahead of the game or inovative? They bought a diesel cummins built and now have to try and figure out how not to let it rip the truck apart hence why you cant buy nor order one yet with the option. Nissan and Toyota are POS truck lol.. Anytime you wanna tie your titan up to my Silly Ram let me know.. And we are using a tug boat chain none the less =)
