Somehow this thread reveals the dirty underbelly of the Forum, which most of us didn't even know existed
Why don't we just go back to boats?Originally posted by NICKYPOO View PostIt's not us, its him. We like boats. He just likes harassing people. Please don't engage him in any way. Don't even talk about him.
I shouldn't have even posted this. I'm sure he will respond with the same passive aggressive BS as always.2009 RZ2, PCM 343, MLA Surf Ballast, Premium Sound.

The problem is the PW thread has been closed and a new one opened a lot of times. At the beginning, everyone was agreeing that pictures wouldn't be posted that were not appropriate. Unfortunately, that agreement wasn't observed and people would post inappropriate stuff.
I am sure I made a few of those posts from time to time also. However, none were done within the last 9 months.

If some new rules or guidelines need to be enacted to keep the pics and discussions PG-13, fine, but this bleed over to the general discussion section has probably turned some folks off TO.com. It's almost as bad as WW up there

It seems that the PW thread was not as bad as thought, At least I never saw anyone openly complain about it or its members like what is going on right now out in General Discussion on other members and topic's...
I feel we contributed greatly to content and atmosphere in the general forums. Were some questionable things posted in the PW thread in the "OFF TOPIC" section? Sure there was but were we ever personally contacted to cease and desist? No. The site went down for a week and when it came back up it felt to me that we were treated like it was our fault it went down and we were not welcome here anymore.
With the Members that frequented the PW thread TO also had a base of owners that monitored daily dam near every other post in the forum and welcomed every new member, brought knowledge and information and assistance to new and current members (some brought a lot more than others)
We used to lighten up some of the threads that were getting out of hand, and we also are guilty of planting seeds to ensure some threads had the potential to get out of hand.
Maybe there was an movement from the other members to rid the forum of the Evil PW thread, if so I hope it is a better place for them now. We have moved on.

So I am curious. I'm sure you guys are also members to another product/hobby/sport forum. Do they have something similar to a PW thread? If so how do they handle it? Just looking for ideas.
Thank you for the input.

You have the answer in place already, you have groups, We already have one. leave them invite only but make them flow with all the functionality of a thread, ability to post attachments and smilies and lose the 30 second rule, Ohh and we would prefer it if our posts in there tallied up"Failing to prepare is preparing to fail" John Wooden- Rest in Peace

Hay gents, why dont we take all this water cooler off-topic conversation and move it to the "Da Hoes" Group that was created a few years back. This may solve a couple of the issue that Matt has with this type of thread. 1 being some of the content. The "Da Hoes" group is private and you have to be invited/allowed in. This prevents the general forum public from seeing and reading the not so family friendly content that gets posted here.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More

Invite only or setting permissions for certain members to see threads in various section is what Ive seen on other forums. One that is well established is Epicski.com. Some areas are off limits to general members such as ski patroll discussions and some ski instructor threads. I can only suspect they use those threads to openly vent and discuss their students or policies in a way that would possibly look unprofessional to the general public. If this software is capable of treating groups like an invite only thread or section with all the regular posting options, such as linking to pics, attachments and smileys that would be the best way I can think of. And maybe let a political thread get crazy in the Off Topic section so it doesn't bleed over into the regular sections.2009 RZ2, PCM 343, MLA Surf Ballast, Premium Sound.

The Bu Crew has a section like that that is for crew deals and is only open to those that have a paid membership. This might be a solution if its capable.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More
