      dcauthen-

My condolences on Ricky. And everyone else invovled in that whole..... racin' deal. I really saw him as the future of NASCAR frontmen. Never met him or anything but you could feel his positive energy trough the screen. Godspeed. (insert emoticon with backwards cap)

      Awesome story 'bout Bill.

Any picks for the 500? (besides JJ)

I think the 24, 48, 25, and 5 all have a shot, but one of the Dodge teams has restrictor plates figured out now, and I can't decide which local story I believe. As much as I dislike the new driver, I almost want to pick the 2.....although the DEI cars are always sleepers at that place....maybe the 8.

But you asked for a PICK!

I like the 5 this weekend.

I don't think the 2 will get enough help. The 48 is nearly famous for making the wrong call when it comes time to go. I don't think anyone wants to be around the 5, even with how fast he is right now. The 25 seems like a farely constant threat anymore. The 24 is probably a pretty good pick so long as the 5 and 48 don't take him out or leave him hanging. You can never count the 8 car out of any plate race. Don't forget about that 38 though.

My pick? The 20. Here's why. The rules package is basically the same as last year, a season I think you'll agree, worked out OK for him. He won the last points race at Daytona. The 11 is obviously fast and has looked real good at keeping his nose clean and should be some pretty decent help. Plus the fact that Tony has yet to win this race makes him that much more motivated. His ability to work the draft and traffic is pretty rad. The rest of the guys know this and will be pretty quick to jump on his bumper to help themselves out.

I'm interested to see how Helton and the boys "call" this race with the no bumping zones. I hope they don't "have" to make a call that will alter the running order at the end.

            Ok, I'm done.

No fan of the 48 but he did push gordon and himself to a 1,2 finish a Daytona a year or so back.
BTW If you havent been to daytona and are a racing fan you need to go. It is incredible. It's like the Journey to Mecca.

Chad will be back this weekend. My pick...the 5, was fast too...just still having problems making friends at the restictors. As I mentioned, I heard through some friends that some Dodge teams had the restrictor game dialed in for 2006.....looks like the 43, 45, 12, and 2 can be counted in as potential winners this year. As much as Kyle has been "in his own way" that last several years...looks like he's got some speed again.

The cute brunette in Victory Lane was Jimmy's PR rep....Heather, formerly of Evernham Motorsports. She's a lake girl and a wakeboarder. This will be a fun year......definitely good timing to upgrade to XM on the 21V!!!! Gotta have something to do while waiting for the evening butter.

No matter what anyone thinks of #20 he is one hell of a driver. Flat out, turn 2 and sideways, never even lifted. Smoke is the next #3. Attitude with the talent to back it up.

Andrew, how about posting some pics of the TA yanking the wheel up at the track. I'd love to see them. That car is incredible!

I will post some wjen I get the 408 going. Engine is being final assembled now and should not be too long. With the crank/cam/double roller timing chain all torqued down the weight of the ratchet would turn the assembly. No drag at all. Pistons should be in today. Also installing a line lock and gonna pad the roll cage. I'm hoping for a 6.99 at our track and still be able to go to sonic for a coke. Love the vette is one bad azz ride. Say hi to the wife and kid for me. Hope to see you soon.

Life is funny. As a kid I was a Texas Terry fan. I hated the #3. Now I'm a bigger NASCAR fan than ever and I'm a #20 fan through and through. If you didn't know better you could swear it's the same guy behind the wheel at Daytona. No $h!t takin', master of traffic, side draftin' extrordinaire. It's almost creepy, IMHO of coarse. However, what he did to the #17 was wrong. I've got to say, I'm dissapointed in him. He should be penallized heavily. He could have killed Matt. I saw the incident that started it and Matt did put Tony in a bad spot but, it would have been nice to see Tony let it go and just beet him to the stripe at the end but instead he went vigilante on his a$$. I would much rather see a fist fight. Just imagine, a boxing ring in the middle of the garage. Two guy have have a bone to pick, "To the ring with 'em!"
                          Stepping off soap box now.

Everybody knows "rubb'ns race'n" and there wasn't a single leader in that race that didn't throw a dangerous blocking move. I lost count of how many times #48 did it. Problem is #20 has the reputation of being a "loose cannon" and all eyes are on him.

"Rubn's racin'" and thats the way it sould be. However "wreckin' aint racin'". Everybody was pulling some crazy $h!t out there but Tony was the only one who drove somebody into the grass like that, which if you are going to drive somebody into the grass, that was text book. Also true, all eyes are on Tony. Especially after all the talk leading up to the 500 and the reputation he HAD. He had done a lot last year in gaining the respect of racers and fans from all camps. He looked well on his way to continuing down that same path untill Mr. Hyde showed up in the race. Everybody looses their temper sooner or later but in that position, with a 3500 pound missle at your finger tips, you need to be able to control yourself and your emotions. At least untill you get to the boxing ring.
