In the world of geekdom, and especially the apple faithful, it makes sense. The point is, the macworld keynote (next week), is where some of the biggest apple announcements have been made in past years. It is VERY unusual for apple to make major announcements to its main product line just a week before. Normally, these announcements would be made at macworld, and during the keynote. Because they were announced a week early, this means it must just be the "tip of the iceberg". Get it? Apple must be preparing to announce some stuff much cooler. iTunes video rentals and upgrades to apple tv is one rumor, there are many more.

I'm stuck with Dell PC's and Toshiba Laptops. My brother works for Dell and I get them below cost, and I buy my laptops from my company for $100 after we get new ones every two years. So no cool Apple for me any time soon, although I would'nt mind checking out this MacWorld Expo.

I chose the 3.0ghz one, one step up.
The cool thing for me, is I have a large client, that pays my yearly membership to be an apple select developer. This gives me ONE hardware discount per year. Its about $600. So I bought the G5 like that, then sold it, for almost what I bought and bought 1st gen mac pro, which I have now. Now will sell on ebay, and so my new mac pro will only be a few hundred dollars to me.
Try that with a dell. Its amazing how well these things will sell on ebay, so I basically turn them over when they come out, before the previous loses too much value.http://wake9.com/

ok, so I got my new mac pro, 3GHZ 2 CPUs, 4 cores per cpu, so 8 logical cpus. I had the 2.6GHZ dual core 2 cpu mac pro before, so 4 logical cpus. Just one of my first tests, when I ripped a DVD with handbrake, it would take 4 cpus to like 80%, and rip at about 50 frames per second. Since DVD is 24fps, and I do 2 pass, one dvd rips in about real time, 2 hours.
With the new mac, it goes at 100FPS to 120FPS, which is amazing, and my CPUs are not sweating! When I was ripping on old mac, it still has enough power to do all my work, but I can feel it. With the new mac, I don't notice, amazing. On my old G5 dual processor, RIP at night, not while working. Here is my cpu monitor during ripping at 120FPS.Attached Fileshttp://wake9.com/
