This is my mother's kitchen after she turned the dishwasher on and then left the house. The fire was contained to the kitchen but, everything in the house is ruined. If you have a Bosche dishwasher, check for recalls. This is the 55th fire in the US caused by them.

WOW Man, glad she was not injured and it was only property damage. We wish her a speedy return to a normal life.

Wake up call. We turn the dishwasher on and leave all the time. Won't do that anymore.

3. Never EVER turn the dishwasher on and leave the house!! we do it ALL the time. we also run it and goto sleep.Think that practice will stop as well.

Thanks for the warning NP. I was just looking to replace our erratic GE Profile. The Bosch was on top of my list. Great timing for me, sorry about your Mom's place! Kitchen Aid was next on my list?

My wife got me to make it a habit to shut everything off and unplug the chargers when not it use. Everyday. Damn it! She's right again. How does this keep happening?

My poor mom. She is bummed. She feels terrible. They've been there 20 years. Just modeled the kitchen 2 years ago. Now they're out for a good 8-9 months. Every piece of drywall in that house has popped. You can see every nail, every seam. Upstairs, downstairs, every room, every wall. The heat had to be immense. The responding fire captain said it was minutes from flashing and claiming the entire structure but that they didn't put out any flames. A neighbour saw the smoke, called it in, jumped the fence and put it out with a garden hose. Good fences...

Glad that no one was hurt and the house is still standing and not totally burned down.

Is Bosche going to pay for repairs to the house? The company that you purchased the dishwasher should have had your mom's address on file and the make and model that they bought.... Bosche does have ways to find out who bought something.

After doing a search for "dishwasher fire" it comes up with all of the the other brands too. Kitchen Aid, Whirlpool, Maytag, , LE, GE and Elecrtolux. The only one I couldn't find any fire history on is Samsung, and they get poor ratings
