    Camera Advice

I need a new camera to take some family, friend, action and scenery pics this summer. I'd prefer a camera that was waterproof.

We'll use the camera to take pics of boarders, skiers, etc. We'll also take pics of family, friends and lakefront scenery.

Any advice on brand, model, cost and best place to purchase would be greatly appreciated

    Paul

      Canon S95

Get a Canon S95 with a Canon waterproof case. It is an excellent 12 mega pixel camera that you will enjoy traveling, or just hanging out. It has a pretty fast lens and lots of different setting options. It also works really well in auto mode with auto flash. They cost about $399 and the waterproof case (good to 130 feet) costs about $180. It will protect your camera and is very easy to work. it also floats! I use mine for underwater photos as well as other water sports.

do your homework...Gopro Hero HD wide angle is nice little camera but not a good general purpose cam as I'm discovering, not easy to use, no zoom, optional LCD ($80) for view finding, battery life can be variable. Still learning the cam as the summer project. Its great for water/outdoor vids per these:

Bike ride on beach shot by Jake as helmet cam. no zoom means anything more than 20 feet is not viewable. Hope this helps.

I bought the Fuji waterproof camera at Costco 2 weeks ago.

Many of the pics I took with it are in the June pics thread.

Being a simple point and shoot, it over/underexposed some of my pics, but for $179 I think it is perfect. Cannot wait to take some underwater photos with it.

I've got a Cannon PowerShot D10 that I really like. It's been a solid camera for me. Shockproof (good for me!) and waterproof. Haven't tried it underwater but it's sat in standing water in the glove box over night with no problems.

It's got enough of a zoom for most stuff, takes awesome outdoor shots, but indoor shots are mediocre.

I have the Pentax Optio. It's an ok point and shoot but works great underwater. I hate the shutter delay. The previous model was the best pns I ever had. Clicked off pics like an slr. I miss that camera.

My mainline camera is a NIKON D5000 only because I got a screamin deal on it but, I was going to make the jump to Cannon. Probably next time. Probably a better action camera.

We have this camera as well. First bought it for our trip to Hawaii and it worked great even in the salt water. It has been to Jamaica and many trips on the lake and keeps on shooting. I would highly recommend it.

We have the Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 and are very happy with it. For under $150 it takes a decent pic, has good battery life and easy to use. My wife actually floated the Comal with it a couple weeks ago with a lanyard around her neck so it was in the water for about 2.5 hours straight while she was using it and it held up just fine.

I bought the Panasonic TS2, last year, based on this review. They now have the TS3. In my opinion, when searching for a camera you want the end result picture to be the best image quality. Balance that with the features that are important to you and you're good to go. The test is a few years old now, but should give you a good guideline.

I appreciate the advice. Last night, I purchased the Fuji XP20 Digital Camera from Costco.

Tomorrow we're joining several other families at Lake Texoma. We'll take a bunch of pics.

I'll post my experience with the camera next week.

                      Thanks again

I hope we both enjoy it.
F toorgot mwntion that I couldn't download the pictures without using their stupid software. Maybe I didn't know what I was doing but don't waste more than a couple minutes before you just put their cd in. could be mac thing though.

I have this exact setup and love it. Just used the underwater case in Fiji and it worked great.
