Picture crossing the Columbia river into Washington. Yesterday, day 5 was the most trecherous. I chose this route due to the slow elevation changes and the slightly less mountain snow potential, that didn't work. The 100 miles fro Bend, OR along HWY 97 had some long distance elevation climb and it climbed up into a cloud. There was snow compacted to ice on many of the high sections of the road. I was following a group of cars who were stuck behind an 18 wheeler hauling hay when we came upon a very fresh accident. A trailblazer had gone off the side of the road and rolled a few times. Well the truck and all the cars start rubbernecking and as soon as I saw the wreck I started slowing as best you can on ice. I was only doing 25 and had about 1/4 mile between me and the pack of cars but I came about a pubic hair from hitting the guy in front of me. He slowed down to a crawl and just after he passed the wreck he saw me coming up on him fast so he actually sped up a little and stayed out of my way.
About 6-9 miles later our group came across another wreck, this time a van pulling a 20' enclosed trailer. The van was upside down with the trailer on top. Both wrecks were on long streches of straight road but covered in ice. It was foggy and windy too, the only thing I can think of is they got pushed around by the wind and overcorrected and flipped their vehicles.
Well, I survived with no damage or injuries, and made it down a well plowed and salted road to I-84, which was dry and relatively flat. I managed 73 on the road no problem. After the grapevine climb and the snow and ice today, I have a lot of respect for my little truck. It has more than enough power and brakes to pull my RZ2 and my gear and it is very maneuverable in tight parking lots too.

2000 miles and it was very clean. The last 400 miles lead to this build up in grime, the snow tires work great though.
My uncle is a great photographer and he found this little motel to take a few nice sunset pics, these I took with my iPhone though:
