For a surf/party-cove speaker, you'll be hard pressed to beat it, unless you are comparing it with the comparable sized JL 7.7. A single pair is easier to power then 2 pair of 6.5" and offers deeper mid-bass extension.
If you wanted to be able to project to a boarder, then the Rev-8 would be an excellent alternative. Not quite the smoothness and warmth as the Icon, but far less aggressive then the Pro80. Same size housing with both the Rev-8 and Icon.

Yep, I'm looking for a surf speaker. I think I'll take a hard look at the icons. I have the syn6, would you recommend another amp to power the towers?
Roads were not too bad on the way home, I thought I was in 4x4 all the way till I went to shift out..... No wonder I thought there was a couple of pretty slick spots
