Happy Day After Christmas!!!!
One day closer to normalcy....
Got some more work done on the boat. Found that foam was half-price the other day at the JoAnn store, so instead of just buying vinyl to recover the old cockpit seats, I decided to just build all new with new foam too.
The new upholstery I am building is thicker than what came with the boat to me. It is not as high a durometer as what came with the boat, but what came with it really seems too hard.
I am also taking the opportunity to cut individual cushions that make sense for the cockpit layout. There are hatches on both the port and starboard seats, so rather than using a big long cushion on each side, I am breaking it up into three, so the cusions over the hatches will lift up with the hatch. The customization is also being done to work around the tiller-pilot. There will be a small removable cushion insert where the tiller pilot is shown. When I am not letting the boat steer itself, I can pop the little insert in and have a cuntinuous cushion on the starboard side. Lastly, the aft cushion is a new addition, as the boat did not come with a cushion for back there. This will add a lot of lounging space for when anchored out at party cove.
I am going to do something "tricky" with these cockpit cushions. I went out to the local Walmart and bought a queen memory foam matterss toppper. I am going to glue a layer of memory foam on top of what you see here, so these should be some VERY comfortable seats when done.
More pics to follow, but I wanted to show you guys these.Last edited by philwsailz; 12-26-2012, 03:42 PM.It's not an optical illusion.
