I you got a 1911 RT, you can get a .22 conversion for it our pick up a Ruger 22/45 that has the same grip angle. It's going to be too expensive to practice .45 often.

Looking for a gun safe as well. We just got two foster kids and we were asked to get a safe instead of the glass front cabinet the guns are in now. Check out Costco.com, the Bighorn is one of the better ones. Also, Safeco gun safes on ebay seem to be reasonable. Fort Knox is the best, but you really pay. Two types, the ones that protect the kids from the guns and the type that protects the guns from the bad guys. I only want to buy once so I am going for the latter. Fun search though. Have fun with the guns, and happy teaching with your kids.
