I still think surfgate will work and make a nice sized wave when you weight it for surfing. Just because Malibu designed it to be used when weighted for wakeboarding doesn't mean that it doesn't apply to a surf weighted setup, does it? I guess the gate isn't in the water at the right position when it's gangster leaned over on the other side but it should still do something.

We had 5 people in the boat that day, just didn't think to have them get on one side to see the difference. I expect you would see some difference...
