dingle and Nicky are saying the same thing about chines, just in different ways.

No, we are saying the opposite.

although they wouldn't have "filled" anything in the mold, but rather shaved away chit from the mold.

He thinks they filled in the chine space in the mold, eliminating the chine from the hull.

I think they "shaved away chit from the mold" which changed the whole running surface.

I dunno, maybe I'm wrong. Although that doesn't happen often (just ask my wife)

Talking about cutting off vs. filling in means the opposite whether you are referring to the mold or the hull, so now I am not sure anymore.
