My buddy sold his old boat several months ago. The guy called him every day several times a day the first week. He called him a week ago and said he screwed him over. He can't figure out how to register the trailer and still hasn't been on the water yet.

I use a buyers agreement letter that I make people sign when I sell private party cars and boats. It spells out that they have bought this vehicle as is with no warranty at all, and that they are responsible for filling and paying for their tax, title and registration fees. I list the website in the state that has contact info and forms for them to fill out. I'm always happy to answer questions about registering and I have never had anyone call and complain that I screwed them over. I treat each buyer as a moron and spell out everything for them and their responsibilities. I explain that the savings they enjoy from private party vs a dealer are that they have no warranty and they have to do their own paperwork.
I got a text a month ago from the guy I sold my boat to 2 years ago and he thanked me for selling him the boat.
