He's 10. It's not something he'll get to carry around all the time. Plan is that I'd hold onto it and only give it to him when he goes away for a weekend or whatever... Which is rare

My 9-year olds have to share a cell phone - but it's not a smart phone. They can call and text only - data plan is disabled

I was thinking about just turning my wife's old iphone 3G on, but if I add a line, a new 3G is only a penny. May as well do that and keep my iphone 4
