When I was shopping for a "new" large animal vet that I could trust, I would call them out and explain a symptom of my horse that needs attention. Some would say "Oh yea, I need to do this and do that, maybe go in for surgery..."
The one I settled on is the one that said
"Oh yea, just do this and do that and save yourself my ranch call fee. He'll be fine"
