If so, even the best Horn Driver sounds like a tinny microphone at a bingo hall. If it's for the boat, then they should be pointing straight down.
For the 2 grand it costs for good tower speakers, I can build a 500HP 454 short block for the flatbottom....

Your description of "tinny" is true with small HLCD's. the Larger and newer versions are voiced for WAY closer distances and do not sound as "bright". Go have a listen to the new larger HLCD, your mind will be changed.
If you dont want to project to the rider on a an 80ft line, then steer clear of HLCD's and stick with a quality coax with solid power.
