Just went and rechecked the batteries. I undid and redid all the connections. I am kicking myself now because I should have just pulled them both out and check everything. I guess that gives me something to do tonight.

If I undo the connection by the taps motor no more popping.

I may end up having to go the capacitor route and then figuring that out.

Try to ground the taps motor to the grounding block on the engine, not the battery, see if that helps.

Huh - I just found out that the college wakeboard championships were held here the last couple of days on Lake Las Vegas, which is a stagnant little man made puddle with a hotel and some homes on it. If I had known about it, I probably would have gone and checked it out.

Reno lost it's contract for this event. Attendance was poor, and they wanted $25 a ticket. I always got our tickets free from our dealer. They would hold it at the Spaks Marina which was a gravel pit that was filled in when the Truckee river flooded a few years back.
