Good idea painting every other board, that would look nice. I guess the upside to the drought is that you were able to design your dock to be usable even in the bad drought conditions, you should be set for many years of up and down water levels.

It was nice how things worked out. A key, (necessary) design goal was that the old poles that held the old dock in place needed to be reused. That single fact drove the whole design. I think esthically it will look really nice when it is done, and it will be quite a bit stronger than just a slender walkway going out as a result of the extra bracing the old poles provide.

We had concern the thing would be out TOO far with respect to neighbors, but out standing on the floating portion, it really is not that further out than anyone else, and does not look like an obstacle to traffic. I really took advantage of the path of the old creek channel that now runs almost directly under the float. I will have 13-feet at normal pool...
