I remember one scout trip we did a section of the Appalachian Trail in PA. It was early spring, snow was melting, lows of 40ish at night. To save weight in our backpacks we decided to use space blankets instead of sleeping bags and a tarp to make a lean-to instead of the "heavy" tents. Well, it was cold, drizzle-rainy windy weather and we suffered for a few hours to learn our lesson when our scoutmaster pulled out extra sleeping bags he brought for us and put us in his lean-to with a warming fire.
