So, my wife and a couple friends of hers are riding in an organized Seattle-to-Portland bicycle ride over two days this summer. We are all going to head up there and then spend some time with her brother and his family in Portland afterward.

I checked on prices for plane tickets and rental car. Ugh. Looks like we'll be driving this trip. Not really looking forward to a 20-hour drive to Seattle and then an 18-hour drive back from Portland.

              true

I like to ride, but usually keep it below 25 miles. Riding two 100-mile days in a row might just kill me.

Don't guys have Alaska Airlines down there? I know up here we can get a round trip to Seattle for around 175, or at least we used to.

                          Ok, so it's increased a little. It's 259.

                            Unless it's downhill.

Yeah - they were the cheapest. A little over $1000 for the family. I could live with that, considering the time savings.

But the killer was the rental car while we are there. To pick up a mid-size SUV or minivan at SEA, and return it 10 days later at PDX was going to run between $1000-$1500
