What is the difference between a hotel and a motel?

A motel, was derived as a combination of the words "motor hotel," is best described as a one or two story structure with rooms that open to the exterior of the building, usually surrounded by a common balcony or patio.
A hotel has rooms that open to the interior of the building, along a hallway, and is multi-storied.

I stopped at a Wal-Mart in Ft Collins. I came out and there was a shopping cart with a purse in it. I talked to Dr while hoping that someone would come back. No such luck. I pushed the cart in the store and let them have it. Hopefully they get it back to the owner and don't ransack it.

Motels are not fun to stay in during the winter in the mountain states. Typically, motels are older and will have a U shape design that has parking in the U.
