Yes it was. My ear is still hurting. I looked behind it and I have a big cut there too.

Were you out on the water?

OK, got the tranny fluid done, spark arrestor cleaned, checked the v-drive fluid level, replaced the impeller, and greased the rudder box. Gotta replace the steering cable tomorrow and learn all the places to drain the water from the system. And then clean the whole boat. Maybe we can hit the water next weekend and put her back in the slip if the weather is decent.

So, I really wonder if the dealer replaced the impeller last year. I have paid for full annual service each of the past three years. Last year, I remember whining because they charged me about 300% markup on the impeller. And yet look at the condition of the old one I removed:

I felt inside the housing, and I couldn't feel any roughness or gouges. Sure seems to be an awfully chewed up impeller if it was actually only one year old

                And thanks again to chp

I finally figured it all out, but I had bothered him for some help.

Actually, once I had completed the impeller, I was surprised just how easy it was....when you know what you are doing.

Cool.... so you're done? I guess loosening the belt was not as big a pain in the arse as it sounded. I did a Volvo Penta impeller on a 25ft Chap that took less then 10 minutes.

Turns out to be really easy...when done properly. At first I tried it the wrong way and putzed around for about half an hour until I figured out the belt tensioner. After that, it was about fifteen minutes. Should only take about ten minutes next time.
