A quick question for da hoes from a mechanical idiot...

I was in walmart yesterday to get a certain toy for the boys (and the short visit reminded again why I hate that place). Anyway, while there I remembered Ewok's comments that oil was much cheaper than at autoparts stores. So I grabbed some oil and ATF for the annual service.

My question is about the ATF. I was looking to buy some Dexron III, preferably from a decent brand. But all I could find was some generic/unknown brand (walmart's in-house stuff) labeled as Dexron VI, which says it is GM approved. Doing some quick research, I guess they don't approve anything anymore as III, and VI is the newer version but is supposed to be backward compatible. Since they label says it is GM approved, this generic stuff should be fine to use, right? Or should I swing by an autoparts store and look for something from a name brand?

When I give poor advice to someone about lube for their ballast fittings, chp needs to just tell them that I am an idiot. He was too nice.

Of course, I just need to stop giving advice about chit when I am clueless

I went through this last night with gear oil. I bit and went with the way more expensive name brand. Don't know that it is right though.

I dunno. I don't know if any US brands carry a diesel since the Excursion.

You could always consider a VW or Audi
