A Ford Flex Eco Boost would be cool to tow with...not sure if it rated to tow though.

A ford flex with Eco Boost that could tow 7-8klbs would be very cool, top of my list if they made it.

What are the advantages of the different gear ratios offered on the Expedition. I know the taller gear ration gives better fuel economy on the highway, and the shorter ratio is better for delivering torque to the wheels, but what are the pros and cons for average boat towing duty? If it's rated to tow the same weight with both ratios, I would think it would be better to have the tall gear ratios to save a little gas.

3.31 vs 3.73 are the options on the Ford website for the Expedition.

3.31 will give you better highway mileage but may cause extra downshifting while towing in hilly areas whereas the 3.73 will eat up more gas but you can probably leave it in the top gear on the hills and keep the rpm's down.

If you are using it to Tow which you will I would only get the 3.73, Just because I like as much low end torque as possible and don't buy the vehicle for mileage
here is a link to their towing guides, i'm sure you have found it already

I would think it would also depend on where you plan to tow, a majority of the time. For me I went with the 3.73 instead of 4.10 in my truck for the same reason you stated. I might be a little slower off the line but that is ok. Another thing to consider, if you plan to put oversized tires on it will make the gear even taller. Some opt for the 4.10's because of this.
