My contractor, who does all the Kicker HVAC work says we should be cutting close to half on our heating and cooling dollar-wise.
Make sure your HVAC installer does a Manual J calculation on your house. Having too big of a HVAC unit is actually less efficient. My old unit was a 5 ton but my HVAC guy figured I only needed a 4 ton and he was right, and I saved a ton in electric bills. If your going to stay in that house for more than 3 years go with the highest efficiency you can afford, it will pay for itself.

As you might know, 13 SEER is the minimum govt rating now, it used to be 10, but get the right size unit and the most efficient (highest SEER) you can and you'll be very happy you did.

Good luck, are you staying in the trailer until the install? I had to stay in a hotel, my house was too hot to sleep in during the two day install.

We did the calculation. My old unit was too small; installed on the cheap when it was put in. I could go 16.5 SEER to get the dual stage compressor and variable speed fan, but it was more than double the cost, and we did the calculatin that compared the three, (existing, 13 and 16.5) and decided the 13 was the best for our current situation as well as 4 ton.

My kid just started daycare... I wanted the 16.5 just for the efffencicy, bells and whistles, but can;t break it off right now...

We had that last week. Guess I shouldn't complain too much.
