Serious question for the hoes -

While buying lights at Lowe's, I grabbed a cheap tiny ceramic space heater. I thought it would be better than dropping a shop light into the engine bay for the occasional chilly night until I get things drained. I just get nervous about a light bulb possibly burning out and leaving it totally unprotected.

But, I got to thinking that maybe it would be a bad idea. I don't know if there would be a danger of fuel vapors concentrating in the hull and the ceramic heater providing an ignition source. Don't want to possibly make my boat go BOOM.

    Thoughts?

There shouldn't be fuel vapors in the engine compartment unless you have a fuel leak. There is a possibility of Battery vapors if you are charging your batteries too.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

OK, so should be fine on the fuel vapors. I do have my batteries on a smart charger/maintainer. What vapors do charging batteries emit? Are they explosive? Heavier than air or lighter than air?

                Hydrogen. Lighter than air.
                It's not an optical illusion.

Use a big LED bank; they don't burn out.

Wait, they don't make any head either...

I would try to find the smallest oil-filled radiant heater available. No open element, even soft heat, and the element is submersed and sealed, so unlikely to fail. Set it at lowest power setting and turn the thermostat so that it will just maintain about 40* F.

Then all you gotta worry about is a big electrical outage that keeps you without power for days....
