Can anybody explain to me why the hell the president flies into a commercial airport, disrupting everything around (and sending home his union brothers from all the construction jobs!), when there is a major air force base located in the same city? Wouldn't it be more secure and less disruptive to fly into a military installation?

Oh, perhaps that would require an extra half-hour of motorcade driving to his destination...which usually is just a damn political fundraiser for his buddies.

The last POTUS would have landed at the air force base and took a few minutes to say hi to the troops and then taken a helicopter or motorcade. There might have been some construction or limitation at the base but that is as much as I can speculate. I taught pilot training at the same base that W went for his pilot training.
