Are you driving that straight off of an iPod? What radio are you using.

The gains are probably way too high... Normally we see gains at 12-o-clock or lower. Know the gains are not volume controls, they are there to match the amp sensitivity to the head unit output. With the gains set where they are, you probably have the amp hitting max volume with your head unit only 20% up. the rest of your volume control only creates more and more distortion.

HOw are your RCA cables connected? By chance if you have them done in a funny way, it might cause the amp to run at half-power... Lets work through this one a little. I will help!

Generally, off. Minimal EQ gets maximum volume. Excessive bass and treble settings eat amp power. If your system is seriously lacking in bass, you need more subwoofer amp power, more subwoofers or both. Loudness and bass controls set to +8 only make the existing woofer want to jump through the basket and kill itself....

I am using the original Clarion CMD4A HU. I am using a Nickleback CD to tune. I do have a plug on the dash for an ipod to go to the hu.

The amp is now wired like this you mentioned here:

It might be as simple as removing the old Skylon / Kicker cans and reinstalling the Pro 80's but we should take the opportunity to check to see it was wired and dialed in right at the factory.

We had some issues on occasion, more with the Tower of Power X installs, but it is worth a look. Post up here, and we can talk it through.

In a nutshell:

When bridging the ZX350.4, if you want stereo, you need to use y-adaptors on the RCA inputs. Take the left RCA into the Y and then connect both outputs of the Y into AMP1. Take the right RCA, go into the y and then use the Y outputs into AMP2. THIS IS THE PART THAT IS PROBABLY NOT DONE RIGHT
The speakers will be wired left to AMP1 and right to AMP2, bridged as shown on the endcap of the amp.


Turn the crossovers to HI-PASS, and set them to 70 Hz or so. YOu want to remove low bas, but not turn it up so high that the Pro 80's start to sound thin. Make sure bass - boost is totally off.

The gain setting is going to be more detailed, so let me leave that out.

The y-adaptor thing is important if you want stereo. Most people can never see and understand that the amp wil operate in mono mode, if you connect the RCA cables to the amp as shown on the amp... Wire it THIS way and you will have stereo.

Oh, it has plenty of bass. I just discovered it by accident the other night and did sound fuller at low volume.

Okay, cool. Bass boost at zero is right. FOr the Pro60's, the crossover set to 100 - 150 is typical. TYOur gain is just WAY too high, even for a Clarion head unit....

I have one OEM that uses Clarion, and I recall wanting to see the gains set to 10-o-clock or so to get the amp to unity gain with all tone controls set flat, fadr central, bass boost, off etc....

Hey speaking of Amp gains, etc.

I removed the Arc Audio EQ I had for a HU and put in a Wetsound WS-420. This mic thing is awesome. I've already been told I'm a nuisance with it though

But the stereo doesn't sound so loud anymore, maybe I need to adjust the gains on the amps? Does that make sense with a new EQ? Keep in mind, the EQ IS my headunit.
