What up peeps! Had a good time at Lake Powell last week! My buddy's Epic did not...the shaft broke for the 3rd time!!! Something is seriously wrong with the transmission alignment or something on that boat to snap 3 shafts. Luckily on his boat it has twin rudders and he was going straight when it broke because that allowed it to get hung up on the rudders. Bad part, when they snap and fall out, the boat starts filling up with water! He knew what it was right away and went into emergency procedures (diving under water and putting the shaft back in and then tying the prop in place.

It's a good thing he had "practice" with the shaft falling out to know what to do. It's also a bad thing that's he's had practice too.

You'd think that the force it takes to break a shaft, it would mess up something else like the packing or strut.

What about motor mounts being loose and the motor twisting when power is being put to the prop?

I also found out I have a leak somewhere I need to investigate. My automatic bilge pump kicked in yesterday morning after sitting in the water overnight. And I ran the pump before I tied it up for the night too.

Didn't even think about the motor mounts, good idea! We were concentrating on the transmission related items and they all seemed good. The lake was ~ 300' where this happened too - that would have been a heck of a recovery!

Same here. A lot more water than I brought on last year. I need to investigate.
Although, this is the first year I've been leaving my boat in the water overnight for some of the weekends as well...

What's the best route to Pine Flat for me? 99 to Fresno and out 168 through Clovis?
Or straight out 180 from Fresno?
