I think it's an awesome idea myself. I've seen a lot of trucks rhino lining a "rocker panel" and it doesn't look half bad...

I wouldn't do it to my truck, but my trailer is a possibility! I have a little rust on one of my fenders as well.

I figure try and curb the rust pits before it really gets UUUGGGLY

Maybe just an angle grinder on the rust, flapper wheel on the paint and then coat it?

I'm not a painter so I wouldn't know how to properly prep it for paint (or rhino liner)

Rhino Liner gets prepped by the installer. I bellieve they have to strip it clean or get a really rough profile for it to stay stuck. There might even be a primer.
