I'm so effin' tired tonight...
I managed to save my weekend. I found the lead off the Alternator was barely making contact, the rubber boot was brittle and cracked and it makes sense because I kept telling myself, I smell an electrical fire. Good thing I always have water flinging off my belt, that must have kept putting it out!
I repaired the connection, jumped my boat and immediately had only 11 volts on the gauge. Gave it a few minutes at idle and it started climbing. I left it running for about 1 hour, including the drive back to the marina from where we where anchored with the yacht.
Question is this:
Even with a dead battery, the motor running, will the battery drag down the voltage I read off the alt, or should I be getting around 12-13volts off the alt regardless?
Either way, I'm a bit nervous and I see myself looking at a 100amp alternator anyway...
