I had to jump start my boat last night. I got it started but I was dumb and ran my stereo once engine was running. Anyway, voltage was reading 13-14 volts then all of a sudden gauge went to 0volts. Beeper started going off and then motor stalled and died. I'm out on the water still. Wondering if j should just jump it again and keep stereo turned off or just go straight to swapping alternator?

Is it possible that too high RPM can ruin alternator? Like since I swapped prop and running higher than normal?

Or just coincidence? I'm assuming my stereo is drawing more than my alt is putting out? How many amps does a 500watt sub and two 300 watt amps for pro80s draw?

If you have it bring a spare battery. And connect to that one instead of the dead one

Both are dead. But I can just replace one and switch perko, leaving stereo battery off. Still should get meter an test alt I think

Running home for meter and tools. Can I just grab an alt at napa? Or do I need a "marine" alternator.

Just trying to save my weekend

Marine ones have spark screens to prevent them from ingtiting your bilge fumes and making a fire.

I am getting my alternator rebuilt and they are making it a 90-100amp VS the 60 it is now, Local shop quoted me 100 bucks.

If you have a spare battery and jumper cables I would switch your perko off pull the cables off your starter battery and use the cable to connect it to your "fresh" one also grab a volt meter if you got one and check the actual output at the alternator and what it is the battery.
