No, one of my friends is an adjuster for State Farm and they look at how the car was damaged as well as the amount and how the car will drive after the fact. I think it depends on the insurance company because my other friend that runs a body shop has had stuff in there that shouldn't be totaled but is and he then will try and buy that from the auction and fix and sell it.

I also had an S10 Blazer that was stolen and there was 0 body damage and the parts to fix it were 60% of the value and they wanted to total it but I wanted to keep the truck because it was basically in perfect condition other than the parts that were missing. They fixed it and I sold it rather than totaling a perfectly good suv.

      Your results may vary...

I guess with the insurance thing..there's no right or wrong answer for totaling a vehicle. For every instance people say that the company will total at xx%, we all know someone or have an experience that shows that there is no hard/fast rule for it.

The body shops i go to complain about it all the time.the insurance companys make money selling the so called totaled cars overseas and writing the insured a check for their so called totaled car. Labor and repair standards are more favorable overseas.
