Originally posted by Timmy! View PostHey Phil, is the new IX500.2 really only 125wx2 rms or is it realistically more? I am trying to decide between the ZX450.2 (or ZXM) and the IX500.2 to run my wetsounds pro 60's. Wife finally approved my purchase
For the Pro60's, I would recommend the IX500.4, run in bridge mode. This will get you to 2-ohms per side and will drive the PRo60's to beyond their rated power, out to 250 RMS per side. That is a little hot, so check with Tim White at Wetsounds, but I know he routinely recommends that the Wetsounds speakers will take more power than they are rated to.
Otherwise, if you are looking only at the IX500.2 vs the ZXM450.2, know thet they both deliver 150 watts x2 into a 4-ohm load, plus whatever bonus power you get based on real measured output. Either will drive the Pro60's to rated power. The ZXM has some marinizing features, so it will live well in a boat, but the IX amp is full range Class D, so it makes very little heat, and runs EXTREMELY efficient. IF you have a real nice dry area to mount an amp, the IX will be a good choie. I am using the IX500.4 right now on my yellow boat for the "tower" speakes, and it has not ever gotten hot.
zat 'elp? It's not an optical illusion.
