When I was probably around 8 years old or so, my family went to Gibson Reservoir on the Sun River in MT. Nice campground, decent little lake stocked with rainbow trout. My dad had rented a canoe from the AF base rec center, and he and my mom wanted to just paddle around this lake. My brother and I (mostly me, probably) threw a fit that we wanted to fish while they paddled. After a good hour of telling us that trolling from a canoe is a stupid idea, my dad finally caved in. Just to shut us up, he tied Mepps spinners to each pole and tossed them in the water. Turns out, trolling from a canoe with Mepps spinners worked great. We caught our limit every day, and my brother and I were happier than pigs in chit.
The next year, we returned to the same campground (this time, my dad rented a little powered john boat). While setting up camp, the ranger came by and chatted with us. We asked how the fishing was, and he replied that it was great. He said, "In fact, it's so good that last year some crazy family was catching their limit every day by trolling from a damn canoe!"

There was also the time we were fishing the Missouri near Ft. Benton. The river itself was fast moving and some rapids, so we were drowning worms in a little quiet lagoon or pool off to the side. All we were catching was goldeneye, and I kept whining about wanting to fish the rapids. Again, they let me try it so that I would shut up. First time I tossed it in, I hooked a big sucker fish, about 3-ft long. They had to help me land it, but I was sooo proud.

I flicked the lure in right to the edge of the brush and BAM! a nice little trout nailed. I reeled it in and said "there, its done exactly like that, now you try" She rolled her eye, got a book and sat down in the camp chair to read
