What did that guy do wrong in that mastercraft video that Ewok posted in the inboard design thread?
The one titled "The Submarine"
I know the driver, he's the one that originally showed my the video about three years ago. It was taken during a ski show in Plymouth, MN. He said he drove down into a double up. When the boat hit the wave, he closed the throttle and boat dove, then pitched it into reverse. He drives about 200 hours per year for one of the local ski teams.
Before I bought my boat, he was pushing me to buy a nautique.
The luck is gone, the brain is shot, but the liquor we still got.
Thanks, its just frustrating because my wife won't let me buy any more stuff for the boat until we sell or start renting the house in TX. Something about a baby being due in like 2 weeks or something, gotta buy another crib or something... I can't believe she would rather get a crib instead of some sweet Wetsounds!

Interesting, can't even really see the double up in the video... Looked like he was just cruising along and *plop*... LOL
On these two videos the boats are jet boats like WAs first little boat. They have thrust reversers that dig into the water and act like speed brakes. When you are going along at a good clip, put it in reverse and give it gas, the jet drive then forces water through the thrust reversers and digs in the bow of the boat, ALOT.
The guy in the MC submarine was trying to accomplish what the second video of the MC showed, how you can make the boat pivot around the bow. I have seen this at waterski shows and I'm sure someone from Fortes can tell you exactly what's going on but it looks like the guy cuts the wheel hard and puts the boat in reverse at the same time. It just looks like he gave it too much gas in reverse. When you are driving your boat at a good clip and pull the throttle back to idle very quickly you can feel the drag from the prop slow the boat down quickly. It probably feels normal to you but it feels like slamming on the brakes compared to how an I/O decelerates in a similar power pull. That rapid deceleration pushed the bow into the water and pitches the stern up in the air. If you combine that motion with a quick turn you can get the boat to pirouette on the bow and turn very quickly, hopefully without dunking the bow in the water. I have not seen that move attempted on open bows, I've only seen it on closed bow boats.
It can be easily done in most any ski boat. I do it in my LXI occasionally. Get going about 30, get the throttle and throw the wheel, the bow digs in and the stern whips around. I can get the boat to do a 180 in its wake. Literally, when the boat settles im pointed right down the wash from the wake.
Now as far as the MC submarine video, this has been discussed long and hard whether or not it was intentional or not. Whether or not he threw it into reverse or not.
From experience I know that putting an inboard in reverse while underway almost always results in killing the engine. Due to the fact that the boat bounces a few times makes people believe there were wakes he hit while turning and this caused the boat to dive.
Just tired of WA. I am at the point where I really don't give a crap about anything he says. Around here, there is a price for people that are easy to deal with and then there is the special pricing for those that are going to take alot of hand holding. I am certain that is what his 'local dealer' did and why the price was set where it was.
