I cant decide between updating my cell phone plan and get one that's a hot-spot, but I just got a new phone cause by other busted at the flip hinge. Or get basic cable with internet, but they want $114 a month cause it's a "business" or just get basic DSL from the phone company, but dont need a land line. Cant do internet through satellite, it's not supported here

That is true, but only if you put your phone number into Facebook. This change to Facebook happened a few months ago. CNET.com has a very nice privacy guide to Facebook. This is one of the many reasons I'm glad I'm not on facebook.

If you guys live out in the sticks like I do (but you probably don't), and you only have one English speaking radio station, and it's country (not that theres anything wrong with that), and the cell phone network sucks so you can't stream pandora, and you don't have satellite radio in your car, then I recommend downloading and listening to podcasts. You can find tons of different shows, it's usually talk radio style stuff and Cnet.com has a lot of great shows. One of my favorites is called Buzz Out Loud. It's a daily 1/2 hour show about technology news and politics, such as the new neutrality debate and other important issues. It's neither a left or right leaning show, it's a consumer friendly view of technology and they usually highlight how the cable company and the phone company is out to screw you.

Chpthril, go with cheap dsl until you can lock down your new overhead. If you can afford it you would love the business speed cable Internet, and you usually get faster service to come out and fix it if it goes down. Cell phone Internet or mifi or sprint wifi hotspots are going to be too slow for your regular computer. If you get dsl you can get some voip phone service for handling credit card transactions and a shop phone with voicemail.
