I'd take my chances with the snow rather then drive via LA
I've got a different opinion.
When I got out of the Air Force (Oklahoma City, OK) I got out in an October. I headed north to CO and once I got to Limon, CO we ran into the worse blizzard in 180 years! I had a trailer behind my 1994 F-150 with every bit of my life in it and I was one of the few lucky sob's to find a hotel room. We were trapped in the hotel for 4 nights! 8 people died in that blizzard. When it was all over, my entire truck was beneath snow and only the top 4 inches of my trailer was visible. Boy that was botch to dig that whole rig out of the snow!
ewok , do you have kids? if yes take the shortest possible route. you are screwed no matter what route you take.
if no then plan your route through Vegas.

So true! Luckily the wife and kids will be flying up to WA and I'll be driving the truck solo. My "rig" is described on my sig block below, glad everyone reads it . I tow with a V-8 4Runner. Its rated for 7,000#'s and has no trouble pulling the boat, yet. My other car is a G35 that someone else in my family will be driving, probably my brother Daryl, or my other brother Daryl. I'm ordering snow tires for the G35 and they will be on their own wheels so I figured I'll change them out when it starts to get cold on the drive up north.

I thought about taking my brother (who lives in LA), out for a ride in one of the So Cal lakes, possibly even Mead or Havasu. He is a photographer and would probably be able to take some SIC pics.

I'd take 40 to SoCal!
Yeah, it was just a joke about avoiding the LA traffic
