How about blaming it on sailboats?

I gots a bone to pick, on that point..... SAturday afternoon, the wife and I went for a sail. We are moving along watching for traffic, (read: idiots) and sure enough one comes along.

3 NAV RULES BROKEN ALL IN THE SAME INSTANT!!!!!! PLUS A LOCAL LAKE LAW/RULE

              1. I notice the dude, (pontoon) is pulling a tube, but doing it in a clockwise direction through our "ski area" which is against the local lake laws. Boats engaged in watersports towing are required to go counterclockwise.

              2. I am in a SAILBOAT, yet, I had to take evasive action to keep from getting hit by the guy. USCG rules of the road indicate there might be a gray area, as he could possibly be considered restricted in maneuverability due to the fact he was towing. Still, I am in a SAILBOAT!!! I should add, that I was under sail. no motor was running. Had I not take action, he would have probably have hit us, but certainly would have come well within the 75 ft I believe is spec'd in nav law.

              3. In all of this, I was to his starboard, a little forward, TOTALLY in the area which would cause him to be required to GIVE WAY. Lot sof folks do not know this one, but for you driving a boat, look forward and stretch your left arm forward. Now take your right arm and swing it down the starboard side of the boat as far as you can. Every boat you see between your two arms has a right of way, and you are to alter course if necessary to prevent a collision.

              4. This was one guy, in a boat, no observer, and no rearview mirror, towing.... Illegal, period.

I am glad I know what I am doing! One thing I got from the bucrew thread which rings resonant is this: Assume every other boat driver out there is drunk. Then drive accordingly.

I saw the whole thing setting up, so I was not panicked, and knew what to do once the guy got close enough that he did not have enough time to go do something else stupid.... He just waved as he went by, jsut after I had thrown te helm over to miss impact. I was nice, did not wave, but did not flip him off or let loose a stream of profanity....

dumb-azzz some folks need to stay out of the gene pool....

I am for a mandatory boater safet course, required for all operators. I just wish it wasn't such a bureaucratic money-sponge to implement. Focus on rules of the road. I am fine with them leaving out training for navigating inland rivers where commercial traffic is common. Most folks have no need to know: "red-right-returning" or how to follow numbered channel markers. Teach folks what is required to keep all of us alive around other boaters...

              Rant off...
              It's not an optical illusion.
              It just looks like one.....

I guess there is a video of him taking two swigs from a beer bottle. And I get upset buying $5 cokes for my kids, they are buying them $9 beers in Philly, they must own MC's and Bu's

Gotta love Philly sports fans. When I went to Villanova, the biggest die hard fans of the Philly teams would just b!tch and talk non-stop about how much the teams all sucked...even when they were playing reasonably well.

Not the mention, the old Vet stadium actually had a police holding cell within the stadium itself

When I was 12 I just about got run over in little Snark sailboat. I turned at the last second and the boat wake plus the wind turned me over. The fool didn't even stop to check on me - by the time my parents got out there to help I had flipped it back over and was ready to go again.
