Seen this failure way too often with old wood boats I am around. Neglected, left outside, filling.... You should see the number of boats I see around here with their trailer balls sticking way up in the air, ***-end buried in the ground....It's not an optical illusion.
It just looks like one.....

Speaking of lowes...I'm thinking about getting one of these from lowes to keep my boards, etc. locked up in at the marina. Any of you ever buy one of these (made by rubbermaid)? It's only $299. All of the "marine" grade lockers are well over $1000. I feel like I can go through three of these if necessary before even touching the cost of the nicer ones...thoughts?

and now the debate begins....
Understand Iam not advocating a slow steady application of pressure, I am advocating a sudden center-of gravity shift. Picture a boat full of water, barely almost balanced, with jsut a tiny amount of bias to the trailer tongue, keeping the whole rig steady. Now jump up on the swim platform.... All that water in thh boat heaves to the back, the boat starts tipping, and rapidly accelerates. The rudder hits the ground with good speed, AND the increasing force of everything behind the trailer axles, and more weight is being piled on by the water now running from the front of the boat.
I can SO see it....It's not an optical illusion.
It just looks like one.....

I have studied the damage I csued to the bottom of a boat when I did a similar thing. Dry and indoors, yet, the rudder struck the ground pretty good....It's not an optical illusion.

Well Phil, In the picture you will see water on hull which indicates that it was just pulled from the lake. Also in the pictures the ground apppears to be pretty dry. And it would have to be tilted pretty damn far for the rudder to be sunk enough to break the fiberglass.
Or he is really good at staging this accidentCommon Sense is not so Common
