So my spring lake spot deck remodel project has commenced. I started yesterday by removing all the architectural lighting wiring from around the rail. I re-routed the satellite cable and the primary power wire for my dock lighting.
In these pics, you can see the badly deteriorated section of the upper deck. The top cap decking was in super shape, but the sub-structure, was sub-par, part of its base was sub-merged, (and compromised) two years ago, and a "water-born rodent" has been doing his best to make the earth underneath less than solid. I removed the decking to expose the old joists. These are on 36" centers! SCARY!!!! The rail and the rest of the support structure will be surgically removed, new 4x4 posts will be installed in concrete, and new joists on 16" centers...
I am looking into options for some reinforced concrete to repair the seawall, and re-inforcement with a few retired creosote telephone poles.
Then over all of it there will be a nice large covered area, 16' x 32' built from 5x5 (nice looking) corner posts, 2x10 headers, (for a WIDE span between 5x5 posts)...
Here are a few pics of the deck, with the deck board removal progressing, and the huge load of lumber that got dropped off yesterday.
Carpenter Phil at work. I'm sure the finished product will be a great improvement.
Humongous! that corner, where the two rails meet? That is basically unsupported, hanging in air. there is a 4x4 support pole going down, but if you look closely, you see it is not attached to anything. The corner had drooped about 4" and while it supported human weight, (I woner how now) it would bounce like a diving board when you heaved up and down on it. I was nervous to do any jumping...

Looking good Phil. Hey I was out there last week on Thursday and drove by your place but didnt see you. I will have to drop in on my next visit. Also ran boomer....can't believe how awesome the remodel on the Kicker facility looks.
Yeah, swing by! I will be at the camper many evenings and most weekends for the next month or so getting the deck re-done and everything... I live south of town, so not living at the lake anymore...
The Kicker place is bad-azz.... Nice facility to be in everyday

Yep, I am definitely missing the LCB life. I am grabbing the boat this weekend and will be rewiring my stereo, Might hit you up for some advice. Other than that, I think it is time to get some pics of Captain phil on an actual Tige and not a sailboat.....
It is a pretty boat! Who needs stealth though when you have OSU PD on the lake?
We have had it way too nice 'round there.... New group this year I hear; need to get to know them! At least the "Rubber Duck" is memorable; I met several of the guys last year, so the transition will be easier...
